After visiting some friends' new apartment on the 24th floor, I was awed by the view and the nearness of the harbor and ocean. When you live by the beach, it's like the ocean has an invisible string wrapped around your pinky, constantly tugging at you, begging you to return. You can never truly be satisfied with your day until you've felt the sticky ocean breeze and hot golden sand clinging to your toes.My favorite part of a day at the beach comes after swimming in the ocean. The ocean water works nearly as well as hairspray but without the crunch, and adds a beautiful shine and a luring smell of the beach to your hair.
Though I wish I had the time to spend an hour or two at the beach every day, it's difficult to obtain that spectacular extra oomph on a daily basis, especially if you don't live close by. So I bought some empty spray bottles in the travel section of Target and by the suggestion of a friend, took some of the ocean back with me.
After a shower I squirt some ocean into my hair for that lovely shine and definitely more controlled, more prominent adorable curly whirls. One thing I notice is that the bottom of the bottle always has a layer of sand, which sometimes gets squirted into my hair. Personally, I think it adds to the beachy authenticity I'm going for.
I gotta admit, I'm a little picky which ocean I bring home with me. The beach down the street doesn't have the cleanest water, so I prefer to drive down PCH until I find someplace where I know the water isn't as questionable. Usually a good sign is if there are a lot of surfers, which means good waves and currents to track the dirty water out. However, I can't honestly reckon there's a fair amount of difference between most beach oceans.
